Movember 2026: Changing the Face of Men’s Health

Posted on October 30, 2026

November is almost here, and that means it’s time for Movember!  Whether you’re growing a moustache, supporting someone who is, or simply starting a conversation, Movember is all about raising awareness of men’s health and making a difference.

What is Movember?

Movember is a global movement dedicated to helping men live healthier, happier and longer lives.  What started as a fun idea between friends over 20 years ago – growing moustaches to spark conversations about men’s health – has grown into a worldwide movement, raising vital funds and awareness for some of the biggest health challenges facing men today.

Since its beginnings, Movember has funded more than AUD $1.8 billion in work focused on improving men’s health.

The charity focuses on three key areas:

  • Mental health and suicide prevention: Encouraging men to talk openly about their mental health, recognise when they might need support and seek help.
  • Prostate cancer: Raising awareness and supporting research to improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care.
  • Testicular cancer: Helping men understand their health, recognise potential warning signs and access support when needed.

 Why Does Men’s Health Matter?

Too often, men put their health on the back burner.  Whether it’s brushing off symptoms, avoiding a trip to the GP or keeping worries to themselves, the reluctance to seek help can have serious consequences.

Mental health is particularly important.  Many men find it difficult to talk about how they’re feeling, sometimes because they worry about appearing weak or becoming a burden to others.

But speaking up isn’t a sign of weakness, and nobody should feel they have to struggle alone.

Looking Out for Each Other at Work

We spend a significant amount of our lives at work, so the workplace can play an important role in supporting mental health and wellbeing.

In busy or demanding industries, including construction, it can be easy to overlook the signs that someone might be struggling.

Sometimes, something as simple as asking a colleague how they’re doing – and genuinely taking the time to listen – can make a real difference.

Here are a few ways we can all help:

  • Start a conversation: Check in with colleagues, friends and family.  A simple “How are you doing?” can go a long way.
  • Listen without judgement: If someone opens up, give them your time and attention.
  • Look out for changes: If someone seems withdrawn, unusually quiet or not quite themselves, reach out.
  • Encourage support: Remind others that seeking professional help is a positive step, not something to be embarrassed about.
  • Look after yourself, too: Make time for your own physical and mental wellbeing, and don’t ignore symptoms or concerns.

How Can You Get Involved?

You don’t have to grow a moustache to support Movember (although it’s a great excuse to give one a go!).

There are plenty of ways to get involved, including:

  • Grow a Mo: Grow a moustache throughout November to raise funds and start conversations.
  • Move for Movember: Get active and raise money while looking after your own wellbeing.
  • Host a Mo-ment: Bring people together for a fundraising event, coffee morning or workplace activity.
  • Spread the word: Share information, support the campaign or simply start a conversation about men’s health.

Small Conversations Can Make a Big Difference

Movember is a reminder that looking after our health, both physical and mental, should be a priority all year round, not just in November.

At Courtley Health & Safety, we’re passionate about keeping people safe and healthy, and that includes recognising the importance of mental health and wellbeing.

So, whether you’re sporting a new moustache this November or simply checking in on someone who might need a chat, remember that even the smallest actions can make a difference.
