IOSH Managing Safely Overview

ioshThe aim of the IOSH Managing Safely course is to provide delegates with sufficient knowledge to be able to complete the practical and written assessments at the end of the course, and to enable them to successfully manage practical health and safety issues in the workplace.

The practical assessment must be completed in the delegate’s workplace and submitted within two weeks of completing the course.

Who should attend?

The course has been designed for managers and supervisors; and those who require a broad basic knowledge of health and safety and safe systems of work.

Many people who complete IOSH Managing Safely courses go on to study for a NEBOSH Certificate (General, International, Construction and/or Fire Certificates).

Whether you’d like to progress from IOSH or not, it is an excellent course for developing a sound understanding of health and safety management systems and good safety culture.

Course content

  • Principles of accident prevention
  • Common and statute law
  • Health and safety management systems
  • Risk assessment – techniques and control measures
  • Workplace hazards*
  • Fire, electricity, COSHH, noise, work equipment*
  • Accident causation and investigation
  • Audit and review

  • Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regs
  • Manual Handling Operations Regs
  • Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regs (RIDDOR)
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regs (COSHH)
  • Chemicals (Hazard Information for Packaging and Supply) Regs
  • Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regs (DSE)
  • The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order
  • Control of Noise at Work Regs
  • Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regs.

Competence

On completion of the course, delegates will be able to carry out practical risk  assessments and identify the key legal requirements for health and safety management.
